Penfield® Kingman Jacket

Penfield® Kingman Jacket is rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the splurge For me, this rain coat was a splurge. As soon as I tried it on, I was so happy I got it! It’s the perfect amount of detail. The zipper allows for the the bottom to zip up which is a nice touch. And the back can button up to be more straight across or unbottom for the V shape back like in the photo. This will be the only rain jacket I’ll need to buy for years. I am almost always a small, and ordered this in a small and fits perfectly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Obsessed... with one caveat This jacket is so awesome! I love everything about it except that the sleeve openings are ENORMOUS. They almost look like bell sleeves. Even when they are buttoned in to the smallest setting they are huge. That said, I love the rest of the jacket so much that I'm dealing with it. I am 5'6", 120lbs with athletic shoulders and the medium fit great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid rain jacket As we're getting into the rainy spring season in Washington, DC (and as a transplant from SoCal), I decided I needed a true rain coat that's long rather than waist-length. I have another Penfield jacket and it's very high quality, so I knew I couldn't go wrong with this one. I mean, it's a rain coat, so it's not ever going to look cute on per se, but it's as good as it gets in my opinion. If only it came in black! The only other gripe I have about this coat is that the sleeves around the wrist are huge, even after Velcro-ing them to the tightest possible fit. But again, since it's a rain jacket, I decided to let it go and keep it. It may not be super stylish but it's functional for spring, and light enough for those summer thunderstorms!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice fabric Quality material. For the cost I was surprised to find no lining. This makes the hood in particular look a bit on the cheap side.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pockets leak So I bought this hanker last year (2017) in a green colorway and have worn it about 40 times (I track more expensive purchases for cost-per-wear). It definitely looks awesome but it is not great for heavy rain. The pocket seams and zipper seams are not well reinforced for water-proofing. The pocket seals especially have been compromised (happened after after just a few wears... carried phone/wallet/keys) and tend to get damp on walks in heavy rain... not too pleased given the price. Also note that this is a heavier jacket for fall/spring - def too hot for summer. For winter use you’ll need to size up to allow for layering. If it doesn’t rain too much where you live or you just want a stylish rain jacket for light drizzle days, buy it. For reference I’m 5’7” 140 lbs broad-shouldered and long-armed. Mine is size small (was 130 when I bought this and it fit slightly better... still wearable but not with layers).
