RETURNS & EXCHANGES
Quality is our highest priority. Always has been, always will be.
We guarantee our merchandise to be free of manufacturing defects and will accept any defective item for refund or exchange. In accordance with this policy, all in-store returns and exchanges for purchases paid for by cash or check require a government-issued photo ID.
RETAIL STORE PURCHASES
Madewell gladly accepts returns of unworn, unwashed, undamaged or defective merchandise purchased in our retail stores for full refund or exchange within 30 days of the original purchase. Returns of swimwear, bodysuits and intimates will only be accepted with the original tags and protective liners intact. Requests for refund or exchange of merchandise purchased by cash or check must be accompanied by the original receipt. Requests to exchange merchandise received as a gift must be accompanied by a gift receipt. Refunds will be made in the form of the original payment, unless we agree to credit a different payment type. Purchases made by check will be refunded in cash. All monogrammed, personalized and final sale items cannot be returned or exchanged.
ONLINE, PHONE AND IN-STORE ORDER PURCHASES

U.S. customer return options
Option 1: Return or exchange an item in our retail stores
For your convenience, Madewell online, phone and in-store order purchases shipped to a U.S. address may be returned to any Madewell store in the U.S. for a full refund or exchange within 30 days of the original purchase. Click here to find your nearest retail store.
Option 2: Return or exchange an item with our prepaid return service
Madewell's Flex Label provides quick, convenient return service. Our Flex Label works with both UPS and the U.S. Postal Service.
- Shipping charges are prepaid and no additional postage is required.
- For Madewell Insiders, return shipping is free. For all others, the cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund: All items can be returned for a flat rate of $7.50. Simply affix the Flex Label to your package and drop it in a UPS drop box or at a UPS store, or give it to a UPS carrier. You may also drop it in a mailbox, drop it off at the post office or give it to your postal carrier.
- Please seal the package securely and affix the Flex Label provided on the bottom of your customer receipts. The Flex Label cannot be used for shipments outside the 50 states; Washington, DC; or Puerto Rico; or for gift exchange or group sales.
Option 3: Return or exchange an item on your own
You can also send the item back to us at the address below using any other trackable method, at your expense. Once we receive your package, we will promptly process an exchange or issue a refund in accordance with this policy. Please be certain to insure the package.

If you do not have the original packing slip, please include the following information with your return:
- Your name and billing address
- The name, address and ZIP code of the person who placed the order, if it was a gift
- The original purchase prices and approximate date of purchase
- The item number of the merchandise, if available

International customer return options
If for any reason you are not satisfied with your international online purchase, email firstname.lastname@example.org within 30 days of the original purchase to initiate a Return Merchandise Authorization, which is required to process a return. Julie and her team will provide you with instructions on where returns should be shipped. If you choose to return an item, our international shipping partner, UPS i-parcel, will provide you with a refund of the original merchandise price and any duties and taxes originally paid on the item in the same currency and using the same exchange rate as your original order. Please note that you will still be responsible for any shipping charges. International orders placed at madewell.com or by phone cannot be returned or exchanged in stores.
MADEWELL MARKETPLACE (U.S. ONLY)
Items delivered by our Marketplace vendors must be returned directly to them and will not be accepted at Madewell stores or the distribution center. To return your items, please follow the instructions that are enclosed in your package. You will receive a confirmation email once the Marketplace vendor has received your package and a refund has been processed.
Madewell gladly honors a one-time price adjustment on full-price merchandise within seven days of the retail purchase or mail order ship date, if accompanied by the original receipt. Items not purchased at full price are ineligible for price adjustments.
