Product Details
With its waist-accentuating high rise and tapered legs, our vintage-inspired summer style is here to stay in faded black with cutoff hems (call 'em "mom jeans"...if your mom was a '90s supermodel). FYI, this 100% cotton pair will feel tight at first but break in perfectly after a couple of wears.
  • We recommend getting these in your usual size—they'll feel tight at first but stretch out juuuuuuust enough after a couple of wears.
  • Front rise: 11"; inseam: 27"; leg opening for size 25: 12 3/4".
  • Sits above hip, fitted through hip and thigh, with a slim leg.
  • Premium 100% cotton denim from Italy's renowned Candiani mill.
  • Machine wash.
  • Import.
  • 5'4" and below? Try our short inseam; 5'9"-5'11"? Choose Tall.

The Perfect Summer Jean in Crawley Black Wash

The Perfect Summer Jean in Crawley Black Wash is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Please keep making these Madewell quality has been iffy so of late (why does the outside stem on the left leg twist in EVERY style?!) but these are perfection. They’re extremely soft. The high waist is perfect and they stretch ever so slightly. These are not skinny jeans, they fit true to Madewell sizing to capture the slim, slightly oversized look. Madewell - please keep making these!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another perfect summer jean! I bought the perfect summer jean in the original wash earlier this year and absolutely love them and wear them often. So, naturally when the crawley black wash came out I had to add to my collection. I purchased these in the same size that my original perfect summer jeans are because they fit wonderfully (26). Unfortunately when the black wash jeans arrived they were slightly too big in the waist so I will be returning them for a size smaller (25). Fingers crossed! Length is a tad longer than what is shown on the model but not so long that it drags the ground. For reference I am 5'3" and 120lbs.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Still unsure. I bought these thinking they would be like the Fitzgerald wash version. The biggest difference is the fabric. Where the Fitzgerald have a structured 100% cotton denim feel these are a much thinner and softer fabric. I'm returning because the fabric feels so thin I feel like I'm going to rip them immediately. The fit otherwise was great but they don't really feel like denim jeans.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fits a little large; looks great though I have the original Perfect Summer Jean in Fitzgerald wash. As others here have noted, the Crawley wash is not a thick 100% cotton denim. While I had to get the original Fitzgerald wash in both 23 and 24 to accommodate bloating/eating (ha!) the Crawley in 23 fits like 24. I almost wish there was a 22 (which sounds bananas honestly)... I guess my point is just that this runs a size bigger than the other wash. Still looks great but I can tell I'm going to need to wash/dry this pair after every wear so that it fits me well, whereas I can wash the other only ever 3 or 4 wears.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Thin material & kinda weird fit I just received these jeans and they don’t fit like the Fitzgerald wash which is really unfortunate. Like another reviewer said, the material is much thinner, so thin I feel like I could split a seam. They look great, but the cut feels wrong. They are tight on my thighs but just baggy enough in the crotch to make me uncomfortable, kinda like when hosiery doesnt’ fit. Anyways, I probably will end up returning these if they don’t stretch out a bit in the thighs (the material is thin so maybe they will?) I’d recommend trying them, they look nice. Everybody is different and if you don’t mind the thinner material you might like them!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dying to Love I bought the perfect summers last year in the light destroyed wash and appreciate this cut a lot. Immediately purchased the Crowley wash and sized down one (I’m 5”9/140lbs, usually opt for a 26). I purchased a 25 and though the fit seemed to have improved (the gaping in the lower torso/but is fixed), the thin-ness of the denim itselfy gives them a bizarre look. They are comfortable, no doubt, but the fabric prevents them from achieving the look of a “Mom jean”. I wish madewell would bring back the perfect vintage and more washes of the cruiser- without stretch. This was the first denim ive bought from them in a while and I haven’t been able to love anything.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from quality issues The fit and cut is so cute and flattering but quality is an issue! I ordered my "usual" madewell size if you can even call it that because MW sizing varies so much from style to style - and the side seams are RIPPING! Too bad because I got these pants during the 25% off sale and now they are out of stock in any alternative sizes that may work for me and back to full price. I can return them for a refund and get them from Nordstrom for full price. The whole situation is frustrating. I love the jeans but the quality is lacking. They are snug in the thighs but not so tight to warrant seam splitting.. and now I'm not sure if I should size up or not.. Honestly I feel like figuring out my MW size is like a rocket science equation. Just annoying.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great style. Bad quality. I am a major Madewellian. I have just about every style of Madewell denim in multiple washes — and I was SO excited to see the perfect summer jean in a black wash. I have it in the Fitzgerald wash in a 27 and love this jean. Fits like a dream. I saw the other reviews for the black pair with concerns about quality and thought that they might have just gotten a lemon. So I ordered anyhow. I got them in the mail, slipped them on — they fit just like my light wash pair — and did my requisite little mini knee bend to get them situated — and they IMMEDIATELY tore severely (and ridiculously easily) through the crotch. Literally, the first time I put them on. ?! So weird. Madewell, being totally awesome, took them back of course. But I was just so sad. I still might buy another pair just to see if they’ve fixed the quality issue, but I’m not holding my breath.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed with these jeans! i was really excited to order these jeans because i LOVE the perfect summer jean in fitzgerald wash. however, these are a different material, not cotton. they run really big. but my main problem is after only two days of wearing them they got a large hole in the belt loop. i was able to get a refund, but these are not worth buying. i hope they make more of the summer jean like the fitzgerald cotton material!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nice fit, terrible quality I was extremely excited to purchase my second pair of summer jeans! unfortunately, after the first month of wear the back of my jeans developed a huge tear in it. I am extremely disappointed!! The quality is definitely poor and I regret keeping these.
